Cervical Cancer and Pap Test.
I always see the Pap Smear Test posters in the clinics and newspapers every day since I am in secondary school. I start to ask myself, what is this test? Can I do it? Is it so important that the government offer free checkup and vaccine at all GH around the country? The answer is YES! How many of you is aware about Cervical Cancer and how to prevent it? I asked all my girl colleagues about this second-deadly-killer-after-breast-cancer. About 90% of them is aware and know deeply about this as my colleagues is mostly a brilliant medical student. However there is only 5% that realize and do the prevention step in the same time.
Cervical cancer is the only cancer that can be cure by drug and therapy. Therefore early prevention is virtue. What is the prevention? That is when the Pap Smear Test come in handy to us. It just a simple test by extracting a small amount of the tissue at the neck of the cervix. The tissue than will be analyzed by the lab department under the microscope. There we can differentiate between a normal cervical tissue and mutated cervical tissue.
However bigger question arise regarding to the suitable age for woman to do a Pap Test. For Malaysian the suitable age that been told my the Ministry of Health is 20-30 and 50-60. In the past 20 or 30 years, this guideline maybe logical but it is no longer valid for me. Pap Test can be done as early as the woman have her first sexual intercourse with someone. If we see this age guide and the age where woman now first have their sex, the guideline need some alteration. The test need to be done after the woman have their first intercourse. There is no need to be shy to your doctor. Regardless of your age, you are still a woman and have the right to get the checkup and the treatment.
The real source about this cancer is caused by the Human papillomaviruses. It is carried by a male human body an transmitted to the body of the female when they have sexual intercourse as genitalia area is the most bare area for two human body to contact. On the side note, if you have a big open wound you need to clean it frequently as this virus also can enter your body through the wound and cause skin cancer.

can u include the histology of abnormal n normal cervix?
You can wiki it. Simple and easy to detect under microscope. All you have to do is go do the test. Spread it to all woman you know. We want those who we love safe and sound.
